Jim King has thirty years experience in the field of economic analysis. He has held policy level positions at the local, state and federal level with both the executive and administrative branches of government. As an administrator and consultant, Mr. King has established a national reputation as an expert in strategic planning for economic development.
Jim King for the past 15 years has been providing a wide range of community development related services to cities, counties, states, private sector business, non-profit associations, and economic development agencies. Among his current and past clients are: the Cities of Hanford, Corcoran, Rio Vista, Oroville, Placerville, South Lake Tahoe, Lakeport, Anderson, Soledad, Gilroy, Corning and the Counties of San Joaquin, Glenn, Tehama, Mendocino, Sutter, Tulare, Napa and Placer as well as a number of private sector firms.
Jim King has also worked wit the National Center for Economic Competitiveness at SRI as Senior Project Consultant on several research and technical assistance assignments. Those assignments include the development and demonstration of techniques for creating a positive climate for new enterprise development for the state of Illinois; state-wide economic strategies for the states of North Dakota, Nebrask and Iowa; and technical assistance to the Western Governors Association in the development and testing of a guidebook for rural economic development in the state of Utah.
Jim King is considered to be one of the leading experts on rural economic development in California and throughout the nation, serving as Economic Advisor on rural economic issues and trends for the California Commission for Economic Development by Lt. Governor Leo T. McCarthy from 1984 to 1988.
In addition to his analytic capabilities, he outstanding personal skills in public speaking and report writing. He is a frequent speaker on national economic trends in the emerging global economy and the impact of these trends on state and local enterprise development strategies. He is also an accomplished facilitator and discussion leader and is often called upon to provide clients with team building, goal setting, and/or conflict resolution.
Before establishing his private consulting practice, he was involved in several policy level administration positions. Some of which were: Assistant to the Mayor of San Jose and Director of the City's Office of Policy Research; Assistant to the Mayor and Director of the Model Cities Program for the City of New Orleans; Assistant to the Assistant Secretary for Model Cities (HUD), Washington, DC.
