Gray’s Peak – Big Bear area – Big Bear Sierra Club

9am , moderate/difficult, 7 miles, 1100 ft. elevation gain. Join us for fantastic views of Big Bear Valley and beyond. Bring 2 qts. water, snacks, hat, sunscreen, insect repellant, layered clothing, and sturdy boots. We will meet at the trailhead parking lot across from Grout Bay picnic area at 9am . National forest Adventure Pass is required for parking. Call Dick Banks for information or to register (909) 866-9232. This is a Peaks of Big Bear Hike, hikes to one of the five major peaks overlooking Big Bear Valley will be made at least twice during the 2008 hiking season. Those reaching all five peaks will be given a patch commemorating the effort.

Fish Creek to San Gorgonio Peak – Sierra Club, Big Bear Group

22 mile round trip on an excellent trail. You must be in good shape. We will leave early and be back late. Space is limited so make your reservation early. Bring lots of everything. Pacific Crest Trail from 3 N 12 to Little Bear Springs Camp – MTHC
9am, moderate, 7 miles, 500 ft. elevation gain. We will begin our hike behind Delamar Mountain in the pristine forest then traverse the Butler and Slide areas that were devastated by fire last year, completely burning Little Bear Springs Camp to the ground. Despite the destruction, it is interesting to see the forest floor already sprouting new life. Bring plenty of water, snacks, hat, and sturdy hiking boots. Adventure Pass will be required for parking at the trailhead. We will meet at the Von’s parking lot in Big Bear Lake . To register call Dick Banks (909) 866-9232

Santa Ana River Trail to FSR 1N02 – MTHC
9am, moderate, 9 miles, 800 ft. elevation gain. Hike along the sparkling Santa Ana River that passes through green meadows, streamside growth and a mixed forest of pine, fir and black oak.  Bring water, snacks, lunch, hat, sturdy boots, and insect repellant. We will met at Von’s parking lot in Big Bear Lake at 9am and carpool to the trailhead on north side of Hwy 38 at mile marker 30.74 (100 feet after the turn off to the South Fork Campground on the south.)Drivers will need a National Forest Adventure Pass. 6pm   We will launch from Captain John’s Fawnskin Marina before dusk, watch the sunset and  the moon rise. It’s magic. Check with Captain John’s to see if rental boats will be available. Otherwise bring boat, equipment, and Big Bear Lake permit. Don't forget a flashlight or headlamp. Santa Ana River
9am, easy/ moderate, 3 miles, slight elevation gain. Trail follows one of the most beautiful mountain streams in the area. We will car pool from Von’s Parking lot in Big Bear Lake to the trailhead and then those staying for the paddle will carpool on to the lake. Enjoy a potluck lunch and leisurely paddle on Jenks Lake . Canoes and kayaks are provided by Camp de Benneville Pines and the Barton Flats Asso. 8:30am , strenuous, 8 miles, 2,000 ft. elevation gain. Great views of San Gorgonio and the Santa Ana River drainage. Bring water, snacks, hat, layered clothing, and good hiking boots. Cougar Crest Trail to Bertha Peak – Sierra Club, Big Bear Group

9am, moderate/difficult, 6 miles, approx. 1,000 ft. elevation gain. Moderate up the Cougar Crest Trail to the Pacific Crest Trail followed by a short but more difficult ascent to Bertha Peak summit at 8,500 ft. above sea level. There you have a 360 degree view of Bear Valley , Holcomb Valley and the Mojave Desert . Bring water, snacks, hat, layered clothing, and good hiking boots. Gold Mountain – Big Bear area – Big Bear Sierra Club
8:30am , moderate/difficult, 7 miles, 1100 ft. elevation gain. Join us for fantastic views of Big Bear Valley and beyond. We will utilize the Pacific Crest Trail and 4-wheel jeep trails to access the peak. We will loop back to the starting point using the Holcomb Valley Road passing the Lucky Baldwin Mine. Bring 2-qt's. water, snacks, hat, layered clothing, and good hiking boots. Adventure Pass will be required for parking at the trailhead. We will meet at the Von’s parking lot in Big Bear Lake . Crafts Peak – Green Valley Lake area – Sierra Club, Mountains Group
8:30am, moderate/difficult, 8 miles, 1,500 elevation gain. We will hike from Green Valley Lake to Crafts Peak at 8, 364 ft. This area was burned in last year’s fire, so many of the trees are no longer there, or are blackened but it will be interesting to see how nature recovers and what is sprouting. Views in all directions from Lake Arrowhead and Mt. Baldy to Big Bear Lake and San Gorgonio Mountain . Bring water, lunch, hat, jacket and sturdy boots. Pacific Crest Trail from Sharpless Ranch Road (3N29) to Interstate 15 at the Cajon Pass – Sierra Club, Mojave Group

8am, difficult, 9.5 miles, 5100 ft to 3000 ft. elevation (loss of 1,900 ft.)
